How we find the right cover for you
We don't recommend duplicating another company's cover just because you're in the same industry. We look at what your business actually does — whether you work from home or a facility — and match cover to that.
From our clients
“We used KeyInsure to insure our business pack and medical malpractice cover, and they could not have been more helpful and professional in our dealings with them. Regrettably we had a claim with our laser equipment breakdown, and the KeyInsure team was extremely supportive, responsive and efficient throughout the entire process, which was a big help. We recommend them highly.”
Who needs this cover
A business insurance package brings the core covers for a premises-based business into one policy. It suits most small and medium businesses that own stock, equipment or fit-out, or that would struggle to trade after a fire, storm or theft.
- Retail shops, cafes and restaurants
- Offices and professional practices
- Trades with a workshop, depot or storage
- Warehouses, wholesalers and light manufacturing
- Home-based businesses with stock or equipment
- Franchisees and multi-site operators
What affects your premium
Every business is priced on its own details. These are the factors insurers typically look at.
Your industry and activities
Some trades and professions carry more risk than others, and insurers price accordingly.
Sum insured
The replacement value you insure for. Underinsuring to save premium can leave you short at claim time.
Location
Postcode drives exposure to storm, flood, bushfire and crime, and insurers price each area differently.
Construction and age
Building materials, roof type, age and condition all affect how a property is rated.
Security and protection
Alarms, locks, sprinklers and monitored security can reduce the premium.
Claims history
Past claims — yours and, in some cases, the industry’s — affect what insurers offer.
Common questions
Why you need business insurance
Business insurance may look like another expense, but it is there for events like legal action or equipment breakdown. No matter how careful you are, accidents happen. If you give advice or rely on digital systems, you should also consider cover for errors, omissions and cybercrime.
What is a business pack?
A business pack combines several covers — such as property, contents, business interruption, theft, glass, money and public liability — into one policy with one renewal date. You choose which sections to include.
Do I need business interruption cover?
If your income would stop while you repaired or replaced your premises after an insured event, business interruption cover is designed to replace that lost income for an agreed period. It is often overlooked, and often the section that matters most after a major loss.
Is stock covered?
Stock can be included under contents or as its own section, and some policies apply seasonal increases. Tell us how much stock you hold at peak times so the sum insured is realistic.
Does business insurance cover my laptop off-site?
Portable equipment used away from the premises is usually a separate section or an optional extension. If you carry tools, laptops or devices between sites, ask us to include it.
What if I work from home?
Home and contents policies typically exclude business stock and equipment beyond a small limit. A business pack, or a home-business extension, is designed to close that gap.
