Commercial Insurance
One-stop cover for wineries, cellar doors and distilleries
In South Australia, wineries and vineyards are a big part of our agricultural industry. Unexpected weather — bushfire or flood — can damage property, vines and equipment, and injure people on your premises. We arrange cover across these risks.
What does winery & vineyard cover include?
Wineries and vineyards face risks a generic policy isn't written for — from bushfire and flood to equipment failure mid-vintage.
- Protection for vines and trees — Crop insurance for vineyards and orchards, covering weather-related risks, pest and disease, and natural disasters that hit yield and quality.
- Property and cellar — Cover for winery and homestead buildings, equipment, inventory, business and farm liability, and business interruption.
- Distillery and winemaking — Cover for property, liability, equipment, inventory and business interruption — including equipment breakdown, wine leakage and contamination, tank collapse, and property in transit.
- Machinery and equipment — Tractors, harvesters, sprayers and vineyard machinery, plus the cost of repairing fermentation tanks, bottling lines, crushers, presses, pumps and refrigeration units that break down.

Why choose KeyInsure for your winery cover?
You need a broker who understands the industry, not a generic policy. We specialise in winery cover — including the details that matter, like wine leakage and contamination — and build a policy around your operation.

Common questions
What type of insurance do I need for a winery?
- Which policies should a winery hold together? — Most wineries combine property and cellar cover, crop cover, liability and business interruption. We'll look at your operation — vineyard, cellar door, distillery or all three — and build a package rather than selling you separate policies.
- Do I need equipment breakdown cover? — If a fermentation tank, bottling line or refrigeration unit fails mid-vintage, the cost is immediate. Equipment breakdown cover is designed for mechanical or electrical failure — worth considering alongside your property cover.
- Are weather events covered? — Policies can cover weather-related risks to your crop and property, including bushfire and flood. Coverage varies by policy, so we'll confirm exactly what applies to your block.
Is bushfire smoke taint covered?
Smoke taint cover varies between insurers and is not always included. Ask us to check the wording for your region before you rely on it.
Can I insure the wine in barrel?
Yes. Wine in process can be insured as stock, including leakage and contamination, subject to the policy terms.
Does the package cover my cellar door liability?
Public liability for visitors, tastings and functions is a standard part of a winery package. Tell us about events so the cover reflects them.
Is machinery breakdown included?
It is usually an optional section. Given the cost of a failed refrigeration unit mid-vintage, many producers include it.
